Tess McClure is a journalist and editor, serving as Commissioning Editor for The Guardian’s The Age of Extinction section, covering environment, nature, and biodiversity. With the Obama Presidency Oral History, Tess provided essential research support during the early stages of the project. Tess also recorded interviews with a dozen people on a wide array of topics, including science, the environment, and the arts.
Previously, she was the deputy editor of VICE NZ. She has reported from Madagascar, Cambodia, and the Philippines, and her previous work includes coverage of the lives of sex workers, the experience of mental health consumers, indigenous affairs in Aotearoa, and investigations into labor rights violations and assassinations of workers on banana plantations and Thai fishing fleets.
She is a Master of Arts graduate of Columbia Journalism School.
